Featured Wedding 2025: Brian + Sefora

The Groom brought a Gun and a Knife to the Wedding...only an Events by Jes Wedding!

Each year, Events by Jes selects one to two weddings that fully embodies Transforming Visions into Reality. Brian and Sefora’s day captured that mission with heart, precision, and adventure from ceremony to farewell and we couldn't help but share a few of the intimate moments that made this day remarkable.

Celebrating Heritage Together

Ceremony Led by the Groom. Love Led by Family.

Brian, with his rich Scottish roots, crafted a ceremony that was all about legacy, symbolism, and genuine gratitude. Meanwhile, Sefora, embracing her vibrant Dominican heritage, handed the reins to him for the ceremony while she sprinkled her magic into the reception design. It was a beautiful dance of collaboration: equal voices, equal honor, and a whole lot of fun!

The first introduction to the guests that this wedding was going to be anything but average, was the presentation of the Groom's family crest and as a gesture of valor and armor, a knife in sheath to signify the Welcome and protection the Groom intends to provide to the Bride and her family.

Brian's vows were a heartfelt tribute to the amazing men who helped shape him into who he is today. Yes, he actually took 1 minute to thank his groomsmen individually within his vows. He expressed his unwavering commitment with a nod to Ecclesiastes 4:10, reminding everyone that family, not just blood but the one you build, is the true cornerstone of marriage.

Just when Sefora thought she had it all together, a surprise heirloom handkerchief made its entrance presented by her sister - her Maid of Honor, perfectly timed to catch the wave of emotions that followed!

One of the most powerful moments came when Brian symbolically and literally allowed himself to be “disarmed” by his adoring Bride Sefora. As someone trained to protect and stay guarded, he chose to do the opposite in front of everyone! During his vows, he invited Sefora to unholster his firearm, safely clear it, and hand it back to him. In that moment, he stood before her without protection, titles, or barriers.

It was his way of saying:

• I trust you with my safety and my heart

• I choose to meet you as an equal

• I am laying down my guard to build a life with you

He was not standing as a protector in front of her and standing as a partner beside her. He is open, vulnerable and fully committed.

We could all feel the shift in the room. It wasn’t about the action itself. It was about what it represented. A man choosing love over armor, and a marriage built on trust, balance, and intention.

His mother then presented the family Bible, welcoming Sefora into their lineage and future which was all carefully orchestrated by our Events by Jes team and Pastor Randy. (We had a Rehearsal & then a "private" Rehearsal.)

Sefora’s vows were spoken from the heart actually unknowingly echoing some of the very same sentiments as her beloved Brian!

Their unity candle and foot washing reinforced service, humility, and partnership.

Adventure at Cocktail Hour

During portraits, Events by Jes collaborated with Bird Scooters to capture the couple riding through Piedmont Park. The result was playful, cinematic storytelling and unforgettable imagery. Guests enjoyed passed hors d’oeuvres and cocktails from Park Tavern while the couple explored the city they love. (To see a glimpse, head over to our TikTok page)

Reception Designed by the Bride

Sefora infused her heritage into every detail. Music blended cultures perfectly by DJ Pippe. Family traditions were honored. Joy filled the room and the DJ didn't miss a beat (talk about mixing skills!!).

Brian danced the night the away with his Bride and both his mother and mother-in-law.

Sefora shared an emotional dance with her brother using a song tied to her father, who could not attend due to an emergency surgery the morning of her wedding (Dad is doing well now). Each moment was intimate and healing because she had no idea that her brother and sister literally orchestrated the song selection to add a bit of nostalgia of being the "baby girl" of the family with a remixed version of one of her favorite songs.

DJ Pippe carried the energy with seamless transitions across genres.

Crisbelcakes created a beautiful cultural fusion dessert that allowed both families to experience new flavors together.

A vibrant family parade introduced fans, hats, and instruments that brought everyone to the dance floor, even Brian’s father, who rarely dances according to his sons and wife, joined in the celebration!

A Wedding About “We”

Brian and Sefora did not build a bride centric or groom centric day. They built a shared experience. Ceremony and reception reflected two cultures, two families, and one future.

Their sparkler farewell at Piedmont Room closed the night with light, movement, and anticipation for the adventure ahead which is what happens when planning meets purpose, when timelines support emotion and event professionals operate as one team. Love is shown and witnessed naturally and pure.

Bird Scooters: Marcus, thank you for taking on this adventurous and novel idea we developed to ensure our couple stayed on time and could prance around varying parts of Piedmont Park for 25 minutes of photos.

Pastor Randy: Your ceremony guidance and spiritual anchoring was a blessing for our couple! Thank you!

Renelyn Thomas: The early morning call time was not only executed to perfection, but your artistry was perfectly spot-on for each lady and Sefora raved about how comfortable you all made her feel. We look forward to working with you again!

Maque Beautè: Our bride was concerned about ensuring their olive skin-tones would photograph well and you did exactly what was needed. We adore working with you!
